KDP Cover Template Generator
Pick your trim size, page count and paper. The generator draws the full-wrap template with bleed, trim line, spine, safe zones and the barcode area, using the same measurements as the PrintReadyCovers studio. Download it as a vector PDF or a 300 DPI PNG. Free, no account.
- Full-wrap size
- 12.700 × 9.250 in
- Spine width
- 0.450 in
- At 300 DPI
- 3810 × 2775 px
Paperback only. A hardcover cover wraps around the board, so design it in the studio, which handles the hardcover size.
What the template shows
- Bleed: 0.125 in (3.2 mm) past the trim on every outer edge. Extend your background to here.
- Trim line: where the printed cover is cut.
- Safe zone: 0.25 in inside the trim. Keep text and faces inside it.
- Spine: its width comes from your page count and paper.
- Barcode area: 2 × 1.2 in at the lower right of the back cover. KDP prints the barcode here, so leave it empty.
How to use the template
- Set the trim size, page count and paper you will choose in KDP.
- Download the PDF or PNG and open it as a guide layer in your design app.
- Place your art: background to the bleed edge, text inside the safe zones, nothing in the barcode area. Check the final file in KDP's Print Previewer.
Questions about the template
Is this the same template KDP gives you?
It uses KDP's spine formula and 0.125 in bleed, and the same measurements the PrintReadyCovers studio uses for export. Always check the final file in KDP's Print Previewer before you publish.
Which paper should I choose?
The paper you will select when you set up the book in KDP. Cream paper is thicker than white, so the same page count gives a wider spine.
Why is the safe zone 0.25 in?
Trimming varies slightly from copy to copy, so text too close to the edge can be cut off. The studio keeps text 0.25 in inside the trim, and this template marks the same margin.
